No Losers in the Presidential Election! Cultural Power Will Surpass National Power
The January presidential election once again put Taiwan in the global spotlight, and in my personal opinion, there were no losers.
The ruling party of the Green Camp secured the presidency, while the Blue Camp became the largest party in parliament, serving as a crucial supervisory force. However, the most noteworthy outcome was that the third force, relying solely on small donations from the public, won eight seats in the at-large legislative constituency, becoming a key minority in parliament. Although the election process was tense and filled with hidden agendas, it did not cause significant ethnic divisions or social costs.
However, from the election results, we can clearly see that there are significant cognitive differences among different ethnic groups. Those who experienced the White Terror era are deeply concerned about another group that might sell out the country. On the other hand, those who have enjoyed economic prosperity worry about Taiwan’s continued decline and lack of future prospects. Many young people actively persuade their elders, hoping that this time they will listen, even though they may be in their teens and not yet eligible to vote.
Who is right? Who is wrong? In reality, there is no right or wrong, just different people from different eras, different life experiences, different perspectives, and different choices.
The “grass” that once referred to themselves as “small grass” when they were students at Taipei First Girls’ High School has now grown into middle-aged adults. Seeing the young people who support the White Power movement calling themselves “grass,” they experience a mix of emotions.
The emergence of blockchain, an impact comparable to war
Ten years ago, the older generation would get nervous when they saw things being sold online, wondering if it was a scam. But now, children know how to swipe on screens, and laptops with non-touch screens are considered outdated. This is the generation gap! We actually live in parallel universes, each with its own unique world.
Because the world is changing too fast.
The emergence of the internet and blockchain has had a tremendous impact on the world, comparable to war and regime changes.
The invention of blockchain stems from a lack of trust in the center, which in plain terms refers to absolute power, namely the United States government.
Bitcoin (BTC), this decentralized ledger, is named “mining” for validating transactions and has a set total supply to simulate gold. It is creating an unchangeable center value unit for the future world.
But for over 90% of the world’s population, what on earth is blockchain and cryptocurrency? Why should something virtual be worth over 40,000 US dollars? Even though the United States has already approved the legal issuance of Bitcoin futures ETF.
Bitcoin is simulating gold, creating an unchangeable center value unit for the future world.
As for NFTs and Web3, they are not even worth discussing; they are simply 100% scams! Most people cannot understand what these young people are going crazy about…
Surpassing national power! “Cultural power” determines the future direction
But if we open our eyes and take a good look, we can see that our elementary school campuses have long been taken over by mainland China’s “dance trends.” Almost everyone knows how to dance the “Subject Three,” a strange invention from a small city in Guangxi, and it spreads like a virus that no one can stop.
The future world constructed by the internet and blockchain, known as Web3, will undoubtedly overturn human cognition. In that world, national systems and all old methods will become obsolete. Who says there is no home without a country? In the future, we can all be global citizens, using currencies not issued by any central bank, conducting our own business, making friends, and starting families in the metaverse.
In the future, we can all be global citizens, using currencies not issued by any central bank, conducting our own business, making friends, and starting families in the metaverse.
What truly determines our path forward will no longer be the reasons of any national power or money, but rather “cultural power.”
This world is an organism, and anything that aligns with the principles of economics, supply, and demand will be invented, spread, used, and reproduced. It cannot be dominated by any single entity or will. This is precisely what blockchain aims to achieve through decentralization!
Therefore, starting from now, let us discard all preconceived notions and observe and feel the changes in the world with an open mind. The future is actually very promising.
Opinion articles present diverse views and do not represent the stance of “WEB3+.”
