What Happened?
Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok has officially expanded to the messaging platform Telegram, allowing “paid subscribers” to interact directly with GrokAI within the app.
The AI chatbot is currently trending towards “multi-platform expansion,” including products like Grok and ChatGPT. In addition to their original web or app versions, they are integrating with other new platforms, aiming to make AI a “habitual tool” for users.
GrokAI on Telegram
With over 1 billion users, the messaging platform Telegram has welcomed Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok, granting it access to a vast user base on Telegram. The Telegram version of Grok is available exclusively to paid subscribers, who can start interacting by searching for “GrokAI” on Telegram. However, certain features, such as “Think” and “DeepSearch,” still require access through X or Grok’s standalone application.
This cross-platform expansion is viewed as a key strategy for Grok in its pursuit of becoming the “world’s largest AI chatbot.” Telegram reached a milestone of 1 billion monthly active users in March this year, making it the third-largest messaging platform globally, following WhatsApp and WeChat. Telegram’s founder, Pavel Durov, has emphasized the notable increase in user engagement, with an average user opening the app 21 times a day and spending about 41 minutes on it.
As Telegram’s user base grows, the platform is beginning to offer more possibilities for AI technology. The addition of Grok transforms Telegram from a purely communication tool into a platform with intelligent features. Although Grok is currently only accessible to Telegram’s paid members, foreign media predict that this strategy could attract more free users to switch to paid subscriptions, thereby increasing Telegram’s revenue.

AI Robots Entering Messaging Software
AI is undergoing a trend of “multi-platform expansion,” with more and more chatbots (such as Grok and ChatGPT) integrating with new platforms beyond their original ones to expand market influence. For example, OpenAI launched ChatGPT on WhatsApp at the end of 2024, providing voice support services in North America to compete directly with Meta’s AI assistant.
This approach aims to make AI discoverable in various daily applications, becoming a “habitual choice,” and to enhance the role of AI in messaging, information searching, and daily conversations.
