Taobao Taiwan recently announced its cooperation with Jkopay, officially introducing localized payment services for Taiwanese users. The partnership aims to provide a more convenient payment process for students, as well as those without credit cards.
Jkopay is the only electronic payment platform in Taiwan that directly integrates with 29 major banks. Through this collaboration with Taobao, users can make payments without having to bind a credit card. They can instead use their bank accounts or prepaid methods, allowing college students and others without credit cards to easily make purchases without having to pay a 1.5% overseas transaction fee.
Jkopay’s General Manager, Fan Tingzhen, pointed out that through the advantage of having a large number of verified users, they aim to eliminate the need for Taiwanese consumers to repeatedly enter payment information and undergo identity verification when using Taobao. They can now use this new payment method for cross-border shopping on Taobao without having to pay the credit card’s overseas transaction fee, and can even accumulate Jkopay coins as rewards.
In regards to this partnership, Liu Huijuan, General Manager of Taobao Taiwan, expressed that by introducing Taiwan’s leading electronic payment brand, Jkopay, consumers who previously lacked credit cards can now purchase cross-border products on Taobao. This collaboration also supports local partners in further expanding their cross-border shopping user base, bringing about cross-border growth dividends.
In addition to partnering with Jkopay, Taobao also offers multiple payment options including Visa, JCB, CTBC Bank, and Jkopay, to meet the diverse needs of consumers and provide more flexible choices.
In 2024, in addition to site-wide promotions, Taobao’s Double 11 (November 11) event will also feature the “First Purchase Red Packet” plan for new users. New users who register a Taobao account can immediately receive a RMB 60 shopping voucher (approximately TWD 270). First-time purchases also enjoy three exclusive services: free local returns, zero tax fees, and no payment processing fees.
Furthermore, this year Taobao offers free shipping for over 10 billion items on the entire site. For single purchases over RMB 99 (approximately TWD 445), customers can choose to pick up their items at a 7-Eleven convenience store or have them delivered to their homes free of charge.
