Annual Forum FinTechOn Focuses on Virtual Asset Regulation and Anti-Fraud
The fourth annual FinTechOn forum, guided by the National Development Council of the Executive Yuan and organized by the Taiwan FinTech Association (TFTA), will be held at the Grand Hyatt Taipei on November 4, 2024.
Key speakers set to appear at FinTechOn 2024 include: Sopnendu Mohanty, Chief FinTech Officer at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS); Peter Kerstens, Digital Finance and Cyber Security Advisor at the European Commission; Seiji Yuki, Executive Director of the Japan Virtual and Cryptocurrency Exchange Association (JVCEA) and Co-founder and Executive Director of the Japan Cryptocurrency Business Association (JCBA); Brian Byagaba, Head of FinTech at the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM); Angelina Kwan, former Managing Director and Head of Regulatory Compliance at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange; the Securities Firms Management Division Chief of the Securities and Futures Bureau of the Financial Supervisory Commission, Huang Hsi-Han; and Chief Prosecutor Luo Wei-Yuan of the Shilin District Prosecutors Office in Taiwan.
The theme of FinTechOn 2024 is “Towards Dawn: Virtual Asset Regulation and Anti-Fraud Action,” which will bring together top companies, regulatory agencies, government officials, law enforcement agencies, and influential figures shaping the future of global financial technology. The event will offer 350 physical seats for attendance. For registration information, please see the link.
TFTA Honorary Chairman Tsai Yu-Ling stated, “FinTech is not just a revolution in finance and technology, it has also significantly changed human behavior, and even the overall operation of the economy and society. AI and blockchain are the two key technologies that will shape the future of financial technology and bring us great challenges. At this critical turning point, FinTechOn 2024 has created a unique platform to invite everyone to exchange international experiences, establish a more appropriate regulatory environment, and effectively combat crime.”
Another highlight is the first-time participation of the Asia FinTech Alliance (AFA) in the annual FinTechOn forum. AFA, officially formed at the Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) last year (2023), is an international alliance with 14 FinTech associations as members, representing 14 Asian economies. It is led by Tsai Yu-Ling, who serves as the first chairperson of AFA.
According to a report released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) last month, reported losses from cryptocurrency-related scams in 2023 exceeded $5.6 billion, a 45% increase from the previous year. In response to the increasingly urgent challenges, cross-border cooperation and public-private collaboration are crucial. The forum will also showcase real cases to highlight the effectiveness of law enforcement and industry cooperation in combating fraud.
In addition, AFA members will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to initiate international cooperation in cross-border anti-fraud efforts, and will jointly release the “Breaking Waves: Exploring the Frontier of Financial Technology” white paper for the first time with KPMG. AFA members will participate in these two important events in both online and offline formats.
