Forbes Officially Enters The Sandbox! Creating Permanent Land
American business magazine Forbes, which has a history of over a hundred years, recently announced the creation of permanent land within the Sandbox metaverse. They plan to engage with the Web3 community through a series of interactive experiences, virtual conferences, and other activities. Forbes has always been a believer in the Web3 space and has embraced blockchain technology through various strategies. Let’s take a closer look at what Forbes has done.
Forbes has officially entered The Sandbox with the aim of showcasing their commitment to the Web3 ecosystem and establishing this virtual space as a hub for the Web3 community. They hope to foster interaction, participation, and even collaboration with the new generation of Forbes readers.
Currently, within the virtual space of Forbes, users can see luxurious swimming pools, bars, and an exhibition hall celebrating the “30 Under 30” list for 2024. The official statement mentioned that every corner and element of the virtual land has been meticulously planned to provide users with a perfect visual environment.
While exploring the Forbes space, users will also come across various QR codes. According to official information, scanning these codes will reveal exclusive content, such as articles, deepening the understanding of Web3.
What are Forbes’ strategies in the Web3 space?
Despite being a traditional media outlet with over a hundred years of history, Forbes maintains a very open-minded approach to the development of new technologies. For example, Forbes launched its website as early as 1996 and joined the realm of social media around 2005. Vadim Supitskiy, the Digital Information Director of Forbes, mentioned in an interview that the company is committed to enabling readers to engage through various information channels, including print, audiovisual content, and websites. Through blockchain technology, Forbes is also exploring similar possibilities within the metaverse.
Strategy 1: Uploading Forbes content to the blockchain
As early as 2021, Forbes turned magazine covers into NFTs for auction. The cover featured the Winklevoss brothers, founders of the cryptocurrency trading platform Gemini, and the NFT sold for $333,333.
In 2022, Forbes launched its own “Virtual Billionaire NFT” series, where each character has its own net worth, allowing holders to experience the feeling of being on the Forbes billionaire list.
By the end of 2023, Forbes uploaded the “Forbes 30 Under 30” list for the first time, recording the list and personal information on the blockchain to ensure that the achievements and stories of these outstanding individuals are permanently preserved.
Strategy 2: Introducing new reading experiences for the Web3 crowd
Apart from NFTs, Forbes has its own dedicated editorial team responsible for creating all Web3-related content. In late 2023, Forbes also established its own Web3 community called “ForbesWeb3,” bringing together Web3 entrepreneurs, creators, and innovators from around the world for exchange and collaboration.
Recently, Forbes partnered with the crypto wallet Magic Wallet, allowing readers to link their wallets on the website and gain free access to exclusive articles that were previously behind a paywall, as well as enjoy priority participation in future Web3-related initiatives.
Regarding their vision of deepening their involvement in the Web3 space, Supitskiy said, “We hope to continue building in this field, bringing more practicality, and continuously creating such an environment for our users.”
