More than half of the companies on Fortune’s list of the top 100 enterprises are using Apple’s Vision Pro, according to CEO Tim Cook during Apple’s Q1 2024 earnings conference call. The Vision Pro, a head-worn mixed reality device, has garnered favor among these companies, with over half of them having purchased at least one unit.
The Vision Pro was launched in early 2024 in the United States at a price of $3,499. However, due to its “unfriendly” price tag, it has not made significant breakthroughs in terms of market share in the mixed reality market. Lower-priced alternatives such as Meta’s Quest series continue to dominate the market.
Nevertheless, Cook pointed out that more than half of the companies on Fortune’s top 100 list have acquired the Vision Pro and are exploring innovative ways to accomplish tasks that were previously difficult to execute.
According to virtual reality information media UploadVR, companies such as KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Porsche, and home improvement retailer Lowe’s are using Apple’s Vision Pro in conjunction with customized VisionOS operating software.
Despite reports suggesting a significant decline in demand for the Vision Pro at Apple stores, with some weeks seeing less than one unit sold, its rich functionality continues to be favored by enterprises.
Bob Tulleken, Vice President of Operational Decision Support at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, believes that the Vision Pro is a valuable device that can enhance aircraft usability and management within the company.
Tulleken added, “Training employees with Vision Pro’s spatial computing technology can reduce errors because the latest information needed for tasks appears directly in front of them.” In addition to increasing efficiency in their work, it also provides a more user-friendly working environment for employees.
Furthermore, in February, Porsche’s new electric sports car, the Taycan Turbo GT, broke the fastest lap record at the Laguna Seca race track. Engineers used the Vision Pro for track data monitoring and vehicle performance evaluation.
During the earnings conference, Cook mentioned that Fortune 100 companies’ adoption of the Vision Pro is just “the beginning,” and he revealed that there will be exciting new product launches that customers will likely appreciate. However, Cook did not specify whether these new products are related to the Vision Pro.
